Division Unit Head (DUH) - Girls' Camp
Loren Woodlands, Loren Shadyside, Loren Shadywoods, Brocco-Loren, Loren DUH...the name may have changed over my past 20 years at camp, but her love of Camp Harmony hasn't.
Loren joined the Harmony family as a college-aged Woodlands counselor in 1991 (wait...are you trying to calculate her age? She's asked that we include this statement: "I was a prodigy....a child genius...by college-aged I mean 10 uh 12 years old"). Nonetheless, Loren instantly fell in love with Camp. She never attended camp as a child so she immersed herself in Archery, Ropes, Swimming, and, of course, lanyard (her mom really does love her eight lanyard key chains).
As time passed, Loren became a Group Leader of the oldest girls groups and helped implement the world famous off-grounds trips & travel program! From Somerset Patriots games to Funplex to Lake Tomahawk Water Park, Loren has organized and supervised hundreds of campers on these amazing day trips! About 5 years ago, Loren was promoted to DUH (Division Unit Head) and she thanks Jerry for the great acronym! That same year, she became a Red Cross certified lifeguard which, she recounts, was her toughest assignment yet: to move from a non-swimmer to Lifeguard…only at Harmony! Loren now supervises (and plays with) the campers and staff of the oldest groups.
She has so many memorable times over the past twenty years: from being Color War captain for the Veggie team in Fruits vs. Vegetables and for the Country Bumkins team in Country Bumkins vs. City Slickers to starring in more Over The Edge of Harmony episodes than she can count! However, Loren says that the most memorable...most enjoyable...and most cherished memories are ongoing when she sees her love of Harmony in my own daughters' eyes (both of whom are campers).
